Set up Mailgun as your Email Service Provider for SAP S/4HANA Integrated Business Communications (IBC), so you can send operational emails (invoices, notifications, etc.) with reliable delivery and analytics.
Prerequisites
Mailgun Account:

- Verified sending domain (SPF/DKIM configured; DMARC recommended)
- Private API Key
- Correct region: US or EU
- Access to Mailgun Logs/Events
SAP S/4HANA System:
- Integrated Business Communications module enabled
- DNS administration rights (for domain verification)
Steps to Configure Mailgun in SAP S/4HANA IBC
1. Prepare Your Mailgun Account
- Complete SPF, DKIM, and recommended DMARC DNS records (see: How to Setup Email Authentication – Mailgun Blog).
- Identify your region:
- US: https://api.mailgun.net
- EU: https://api.eu.mailgun.net
- Generate or retrieve your Private API Key (see: Where can I find my API keys and SMTP credentials? – Mailgun Help Center).
- Select a dedicated sender address (e.g., notifications@yourdomain.com).
2. Initial SAP S/4HANA / IBC Setup
- Enable Integrated Business Communications and select Mailgun as your provider using SAP’s STC01 task list and IBC_INITIAL_SETUP.

3. Sender Profiles
- Use SAP’s “Sender Profiles” app to configure your sender identity.
- The sender address must match your Mailgun domain/path prefix.
