Fix issues where you find them. The live editor lets you edit your email's HTML right in the Fix issues tab. Then retest on the same email clients, without leaving Inspect. No copying code out. No re-uploading to check your fix.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you currently submit tests from your email provider using the custom Inspect email address, you will need to go back and generate a new email address to get access to this feature. The old address will continue to work, but it will not have the code editor or other new features. This is true for all Inspect email addresses created before September 29th, 2026.
Edit your HTML
- Open a test and go to the Fix issues tab.
- On the window to the right of the issues, click HTML to open the editor.
- Click inside the HTML editor and start typing.
- When you're done, click Save in the top right of the editor. The button becomes active as soon as you make a change.
Tips:
- To undo a change, use keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+Z or Cmd+Z).
- To copy your HTML out of the editor, click the copy icon in the top right of the editor.
- The editor doesn't check your code, so double-check your formatting before you save.
Choose how to save
After you click Save, choose one of these options:

Then click Save.
Update current version
This option overwrites the HTML in the version you're working on, and you can't get the original HTML back. If you might want to keep it, choose Save as new version instead.
Your previews and issues won't reflect your changes. A banner will tell you that results may be outdated. Click Retest to see latest to run a new scan.
Save as new version
When you choose Save as new version, the dialog shows how many previews the new version will use. It runs the same email clients as your previous test. You can also add an optional Description to note what changed.
The new version opens automatically, and its version number appears next to the test name (for example, Version 2, Version 3).
Retest from the editor or new HTML
You can also create a new version by clicking Retest, either in the top right of the page or in the outdated results banner. In the Retest email dialog, you can:
- Select Use updated HTML from this test to retest the HTML in your editor.
- Paste new HTML on the From HTML tab.
- Retest from a link on the From URL tab.
Click Test to create the new version. Retesting uses previews.
View and restore version
To see all versions of a test, click the clock icon next to Save. You can also click the Version icon next to the test name. The Version history list shows each version and its date, and the version you're viewing is marked Current.
To go back to an earlier version, click Restore. You'll see the previews and unresolved issues for that version's HTML.
If you leave without saving
If you leave a test with unsaved edits, you'll be asked what to do:
- Save changes opens the save options above.
- Discard changes returns the editor to the last saved HTML.
FAQ
Does saving a new version change my original test?
No. Earlier versions stay available in Version history.
Who can edit a test's HTML?
Any user with access to the test. If two people save changes at the same time, the last save is the one that's kept.
Do my edits change my original email file or ESP template?
No. Changes apply only to the HTML inside of Inspect. To use the updated code, copy it from the editor.
Does the editor use preview credits?
Only if you save a new version, which will rerun your new HTML across all of the previews you originally selected.
