Introduction
How you send your Inbox Placement test will depend on whether you have a Mailgun domain configured and verified. Both testing methods provide a guided experience!
- Simplified testing - use this if you do have a domain that has been added to Mailgun and the DNS has been verified.
- Advanced testing - use this if you do not have a domain with Mailgun.
Once you have performed a test, your results should appear within a few minutes on the inbox placement overview page.
Simplified testing
Allows you to create an Inbox Placement test via Mailgun Send so everything can happens right here in side the Mailgun Control Panel.
Step 1
Let us know the email address and domain you want the email to come from.
Step 2
Enter a Subject line and From address, add email content, and select the providers you want to test with.
Step 3
Launch the test and wait for the results!
Advanced testing
Requires you to send the emails yourself to the seed list (a special list of email addresses used for testing inbox placement). The seed list can be one you already have or Mailgun can generate a new one on your behalf.
This solution is typically used by customers who want to add the seed list to their contact list, or for customers who send using a non-Mailgun service (and hence, they do not have a domain configured with and verified by Mailgun).
Step 1
Choose to generate a new seed list or reuse an existing one (either one you have created yourself or that Mailgun generated on your behalf).
Step 2
Send an email to the entire seed list using the email service and tool of your choice.
Step 3
Watch the Inbox Placement Results page to see your results come in.
Receiving the results
If everything has been done correctly, you should see results in a few minutes on the overview page. It's best to make sure your emails have been fully sent from your ESP before troubleshooting any issues.
Once you see results, you can open them to view more detail, including Gmail tab placement, sending IPs, and inbox/missing/spam rates. Emails will only be classified as missing after we don't receive them for 24 hours.
(For those using the Advanced Testing) If you do not see results after sending all emails from your ESP, check to make sure that the domain you sent from is listed on your seed lists sending domains. If the domains is not on the list, you will need to add it, and resend the test.
(For those using the Advanced Testing) If your sending domains have been set up correctly, make sure you sent the test to the entire seed list, including the unique ID address. We will not generate results if we do not receive an email from your sending domains to your seed list unique ID email address.
